Did you go to school at Rivington & Blackrod? Read on...

For the last 120 years of the school's 450 year history, there has been an Association of Old Rivingtonians, who have over the years, organised many social and sporting events and raised funds to donate to local and national charities.

The current Association committee, some of whom have served for over 60 years, have decided that at their time of life, they can continue no more, and this summer decided that the Old Rivs Association may have to close.

The committee believes however that many former pupils would like to see this institution continue and embrace the opportunity to refresh the Association into the modern day.

They would like:

  • To recruit younger members from all generations of former students

  • To refresh the range of social events to suit this younger crowd

  • Engage with the many former students who would like to put something back into the school

  • Use their combined life experiences to support current pupils and more recent leavers by sharing valuable career advice, mentoring and financial support, thereby giving something back to the school that gave many of us a great start in life.

To discuss the Association's ideas for the future and find out how you can get involved, there is a meeting at The Bridge Hotel, Horwich at 7pm on 8th November 2023.

The Old Rivs Association would be delighted if you could join them. Please also share this message with any of your relatives and friends who may also be ex Rivington and Blackrod students.

If you would like to join on the 8th November at the Bridge Hotel please drop an email to either colhigham7@gmail.com or glenndj@hotmail.co.uk with a contact telephone number.

Please note for clarity that the Association of Old Rivingtonians is separate to Old Rivingtonians Sports Club, which is not at risk of closure.
