All at the club were saddened this week to learn of the passing of Old Rivingtonians Club stalwart, Eric McKnight. A Horwich man through-and-through, Eric played for RMI for years in both football and cricket, and was instrumental in the revival and subsequent resurgence of Old Rivingtonians FC during the 1980s and 1990s.
At its height Old Rivs FC had 5 teams and over 40 players training at St Joseph's High School every week, and Eric worked tirelessly during this period ensuring the development and success of the club.
In fact, it was through Eric's hard work, and the reputation he built that made it easy for us to rename our club, and resurrect Old Rivingtonians Sports Club in 2021.
An excellent role model, teammate, captain, committee man, and a great friend to many, Eric will be sadly missed. The thoughts of all at Old Rivs Sports Club are with Eric's family and friends at this very sad time.
We will ensure that his legacy lives on.
